Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Kay de Wolf pieced together a perfect weekend in Finland; the reigning world champion departed the KymiRing with the maximum 60 championship points and most importantly, steered the tide and momentum back towards himself after seemingly struggling over the past couple of Grands Prix.
“I haven’t been on the bike since France” explained de Wolf. “I hurt my ankle (in France), then in Teutschenthal I hurt my shoulder, so I think it was five weeks without bike time let’s say, during the week let’s say.” Like any sport, fans speculate on the reasoning behind a riders drop in form and are quick to voice their opinions on what the cause is. “People are always saying stuff, but they don’t know what is going on behind the scenes, but you will always have that. I just did what I had to do, worked my arse off the last two weeks and showed again who was the fastest.”

The poor run of form since France has seen the #1 fall from the summit of the championship standings to third, and more worryingly, 70 points adrift of the points lead heading into Finland. “I don’t even know how many points I closed on this weekend” he affirmed. “I’m just looking at myself, I have to do what I have to let’s say which is winning GPs and trying to put it on the box every single moto”
The Dutchman’s racing plans for 2026 are still unknown, with speculation whether he will move up to the MXGP class, stay in MX2 or potentially race outside of Europe. “I’m not really sure what’s going to happen, if I’m staying 250 or going 450, we will try end the season and then we will sit down and see what’s the best for me and for the team to do.”
