Cult Moto Post-Race Interviews:

MX2 rookie Mathis Valin continued his recent run of strong form in Uddevalla for the Swedish Grand Prix. 6-4 moto scores secured the Frenchman sixth overall and meant he has finished inside the top five in five of the last six motos.

A qualifying win and podium at the MXGP of Czech Republic ensured a day of career firsts and ignited confidence in the Kawasaki Racing Team rider. A pair of fifths in the Lommel sand, along with his recent strong showing on the slick Swedish terrain, puts him in a good position to represent France at the upcoming Motocross of Nations at Ironman Raceway.

“Yeah for sure I want to go” he told Cult Moto, when asked about the upcoming MXoN. “It’s in the U.S, so I want to go even more and I want to race there, but, I don’t know yet which rider they are going to take because in 250 we have quite a lot, Tom Vialle, Thibault (Benistant) so I don’t know yet so we will see but for sure I want to go”

It’s a tricky decision for Team France to make when choosing which MX2 rider to take stateside in October, but Valin has found momentum at a crucial point in the season, putting himself in strong contention for selection. It’s also worth noting that he started the season well before his injury, and his recent performances suggest this is the level we might have seen all year had he remained healthy.

Arnhem is up next on the MXGP calendar, and Valin will be eager to carry his recent form into the Dutch sand. For the full interview with Mathis in Sweden, head over to the Cult Moto Post-Race Podcast.
