Day one has concluded here in Afyon for Round 18 of the FIM Motocross World Championship.

MXGP:

Lucas Coenen claimed the Fox Holeshot ahead of fellow KTM rider Jeffrey Herlings and the two began to break away from the field on the opening laps. Romain Febvre was positioned in fourth and made a power move through the waves to pass Tim Gajser and to take over third place. The three would hold these positions for the remainder of the race, with Gajser and Renaux rounding out the top five.

MX2:

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Sacha Coenen put on a clinic in the MX2 qualifying race, pulling the Fox Holeshot and leading every lap en route to his first qualifying win of the season. Kay de Wolf followed behind in second, most importantly gaining four points over championship leader Simon Langenfelder, cutting the deficit to 11 points. Monster Energy Triumph Factory Racing’s Guillem Farres rode home in a strong third ahead of Liam Everts and teammate Camden McLellan.
