This year’s edition of the Motocross des Nations is a big deal for many – especially for Great Britain’s Dylan Walsh, who will represent Team GB for the first time at Ironman Raceway. Walsh has raced virtually everywhere around the world, from MXGP to AMA Pro Motocross and Supercross, World Supercross, and most recently the Triple Crown Canadian National Motocross Championship this summer with the WLTN Kawasaki team.
Walsh has in fact raced the MXoN previously, representing Team New Zealand in 2019 at Assen. However, he has voiced his excitement to be able to ride for Great Britain, the country he was born in. It has been rumoured years past that Walsh could be on the team, but they never come through, which he admitted were true when speaking with Cult Moto.
“Yeah look mate it’s a dream come true really” he said. “Being born in London I knew I’d always be eligible to do it but just never thought the opportunity would come but I’ve been speaking with Mark last couple years and got close a couple times so to finally get the chance this year I’m pumped.”
Although he enjoyed success during his summer in Canada, scoring multiple podiums in the MX2 class, Walsh was still battling back from broken L1 and L3 vertebrae sustained at the final supercross round, making his results with WLTN Kawasaki even more impressive. After a strong 250SX campaign to begin the year, qualifying for six main events, Walsh has now signed with the Australian KTM team for the AUSX series. KTM Australia has gone all-in on the effort, sending him a full 250 race bike to prepare on and providing multiple days of suspension testing to ensure he’s as comfortable as possible.
“Yeah I’ve been flat out on the KTM and thankfully KTM Australia have been super helpful sending me a full race 250 to practice on and even had a couple days suspension testing so it’s been mega!”
Out of all the options Mark Chamberlain could have chosen for this years team, Walsh is on the top of the pile in terms of ability on a motocross bike. Partnered with Mewse and Gilbert, the Brit’s have a sneaky good team heading into Ironman.
