Ken Roczen lined up for his ninth MXoN appearance this past weekend at Ironman, and it looked to be another memorable one after a strong second place finish in the MXGP qualifying race. Unfortunately for Kenny, Sunday didn’t go to plan – early crashes in both motos forced him to claw his way back through the pack, salvaging 18-12 race finishes. Despite the tough day, Roczen admitted he came into the event underprepared. Still, representing his homeland remains something he’ll always seize the opportunity to do.
Another blow for Germany came when recently crowned MX2 World Champion Simon Langenfelder was knocked out in a start crash during the opening MXGP & MX2 moto, effectively ending the team’s podium hopes. Roczen spoke highly of Langenfelder’s achievements this season, as he became the first German since Kenny himself to be crowned World Champion.
