It has been confirmed that Italian talent Mattia Guadagnini has inked a deal with the Van Venrooy KTM Racing team for the 2026 season. Mattia, a former GP winner in the MX2 ranks and a podium visitor in the premier class, embarked on a journey with Ducati MXGP Factory Team for 2025, where it looked to be a perfect fit – securing two 4th overalls in the opening three rounds.
However, after his strong start to the season, the Italian was forced to miss rounds four through six after sustaining six broken ribs in a practice crash. The injury woes continued, as he was then sidelined for the British Grand Prix with a torn calf muscle, leaving him to play catch-up not only on his fitness, but also on developing his brand-new motorcycle, which continues to evolve every weekend due to its youth in the paddock.
I remember talking with him after the Swedish Grand Prix, and there was a combination of uncertainty and calmness when discussing his future, with many jokes made about needing to get a “normal job.” A step back from factory machinery could be a positive one for the Italian in terms of pressure and expectation, while still having a semi-factory feel and vibe to it, and being surrounded by motocross-loving people.
