Dylan Woodcock has lived many European racers’ dreams, travelling to Southern California since he was 18, training and racing the opening rounds of AMA Supercross. Qualifying for a total of six 250SX main events, Woodcock is a prime example of what true grit and investment into yourself can achieve. Wanting to pave a different path than the typical British Motocross Championship rider, his focus on indoor racing has not only seen him find success stateside, but worldwide racing opportunities as well.
This lifestyle is something Woodcock thrives in, despite it not always being as simple as it seems to us back home. The true challenges for any privateer are significant, far above what the average fan would even understand. But combine that with being a ‘one-man band’ for the majority of the preparation, and without an endless parts budget, and it essentially forces you out of your comfort zone.
We caught up with Dylan to discuss his Supercross journey, the reasons why he chose a different path, and the harsh realities of being a privateer. Many would assume his results could have landed him a spot on a small team, and that is something we dive into as well.
