Tom Vialle pieced together an amazing debut MXGP qualifying race to take the win, with Lucas Coenen stalking the Frenchman for the entirety of the race. Another MXGP rookie, Andrea Adamo, had a strong ride to finish third. Jeffrey Herlings crashed early on while battling for the top five, and Tim Gajser avoided potential disaster as he collided with a backmarker.

The first MX2 qualifying race victory went to Red Bull KTM De Carli, as the young Belgian got a strong start and followed MX2 rookie Janis Reisulis during the opening laps before making a decisive move for the lead and pulling away for the win. Guillem Farres and Mathis Valin completed the top three. Meanwhile, the reigning world champion, Simon Langenfelder was caught up in a start crash, with his bike becoming tangled with another rider. The incident damaged his front wheel, forcing an early pit stop and leaving him a long way behind the rest of the field.
