Many within the MXGP paddock hold Latvian talent Janis Reisulis in extremely high regard, and his full-time MX2 debut in Argentina illustrated that those expectations are warranted. Reisulis captured both the EMX125 and EMX250 titles before stepping up to the MX2 class for the 2026 season, joining forces with his older brother Karlis Reisulis under the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 awning. The duo also showed that the Factory YZ250F is in a strong place, with the brothers sharing the FOX Holeshots across the two races, one each in race one and race two.
Janis Reisulis claimed the first holeshot of the season and led the opening five laps, looking comfortable running the pace at the front while clicking off consistent 2:03 lap times. The rookie lost two positions across laps six and seven but continued to hold strong inside the top three. Reisulis maintained third place until the final lap before eventually crossing the line in fourth, an impressive start to his professional MX2 career.

Whilst older brother Karlis Reisulis rocketed out in race two to claim the holeshot, Janis Reisulis started around the top five and soon positioned himself in fifth by lap four. The Latvian ran inside the top five for a handful of laps before eventually crossing the line in sixth. His 4–6 race finishes secured him fifth overall on the day, just four points shy of an overall podium finish.
An extremely impressive outing from Janis Reisulis and Karlis Reisulis, with Karlis actually finishing just two positions behind his younger brother in seventh. The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 machines look to have found a strong package capable of competing at the front of the MX2 field, and it will be an interesting storyline to follow as the season progresses — these brothers could be real contenders.
