2023 AMA SX – Anaheim 1 – Qualifying Results & Ones to Watch

Qualifying done here at Angel Stadium for the opening round of the 2023 AMA Supercross series. A technical track after all the rain this week is shaping up to help with some close racing, and potentially some upsets too. Check out our thoughts, and the full qualifying results below!

450SX
Anderson
Jason Anderson is looking confident aboard his Monster Energy Kawasaki, however has had a little get-off in qualifying after coming up short in a rhythm section. He looked a little sore, but he’s a fighter. Expect some serious speed out of him tonight if he’s feeling good.

Eli
The #1 plate guy, Eli Tomac, has been looking strong from the get-go. He’s attacking the track as ever, and will be looking to turn his A1 luck around this year to retain his title.

AP
Maybe AP has been written off a little early here, as he’s not been on too many radars as of late. He actually looks super comfy, and is happy leading the pack the fast way around the track in the qualifying sessions here. Watch out for him later if he gets out the gate.

Marv
Marvin Musquin topped qualifying #1 pretty convincingly, and although a dark horse, could prove triumphant on a track as technical as this year’s A1. A better bike package for both Red Bull KTM riders this year it seems, keep your eyes out for them.

250SX
Jett
We all know how Jett Lawrence can ride, and boy does he look just as you’d imagined so far. He’s taking the technical track in his stride, expect him to be right at the sharp end all night long.

Forkner
Austin Forkner is back once again, with what seems like a real fire in his belly. Fastest qualifier, Forkner is a determined guy, and he looks good here out on track. Redemption time for this guy once again, expect him to come out fighting.

Enzo Lopes
Enzo has been on the cusp of some great SX results for the past few years now. Today he topped the 1st qualifying session, and starts with 7th gate pick. He looks raring to go, and could creep into the top 5 with a good night.

Walshy
We’ve been in and amongst Brit Dylan Walsh all weekend, and he is feeling much more prepared going into ’23 SX compared to his rookie season under the lights. He qualified 11th, and is getting out the gate really well. Let’s see if he can push into the top 10.
