Pauls Jonass has admitted that he could be ready to call time on his professional racing career if the right opportunity doesn’t come his way for next season.

Speaking to us on the Cult Moto Post Race Podcast, the former MX2 World Champion was pretty open about where he currently stands and what it would take to keep him behind the gate.

“I’m happy to call it a day. If nothing comes on the table with a good salary, I will call it a day.”

It’s a pretty clear message from Jonass, who has been a familiar face in the MXGP paddock for well over a decade. After winning the MX2 World Championship in 2017, the Latvian made the move into the premier class and has since experienced his fair share of highs, injuries and comebacks at the highest level of the sport.

At this stage of his career, it sounds as though Jonass isn’t interested in simply finding a ride for the sake of staying on the gate. If the right deal is there, we could see him back for another season. If it isn’t, he seems more than comfortable with the idea of walking away.

Whether we’ve seen the last of Pauls Jonass remains to be seen, but one thing is pretty clear — he knows what he wants from his next deal.
