The 2026 MXGP World Championship headed to Afyonkarahisar for round 17 of the season, with plenty on the line across both classes as the championship entered its final stretch.

It proved to be a huge weekend in Türkiye. Guillem Farres returned to the top step in MX2, while Jeffrey Herlings produced another perfect performance in MXGP – and, more importantly, wrapped up his sixth FIM Motocross World Championship.

Farres’ 2-1 scorecard was enough to secure the overall victory and his sixth Grand Prix win of the season. Längenfelder took the opening moto victory before finishing third in race two for second overall, while Everts continued his strong run of form with third overall.

The result also had major championship implications, with Farres leaving Türkiye leading the MX2 standings on 806 points ahead of Triumph teammate Camden McLellan on 756 and Sacha Coenen on 746.

There was simply no stopping Herlings in Türkiye. The Dutchman went 1-1 for yet another perfect weekend, but the biggest moment came at the end of the opening moto, where he officially secured the 2026 MXGP World Championship.

It marked Herlings’ sixth World Championship title, his third in the premier MXGP class and his first with Honda HRC Petronas. His two victories in Türkiye also extended an incredible winning streak to 17 consecutive individual races.

Behind him, Honda teammate Tom Vialle put together a 4-2 scorecard for second overall and his third consecutive podium, while outgoing World Champion Romain Febvre went 3-3 to complete the podium.

With the MXGP title now decided but the MX2 championship still very much alive, attention turns to the final two rounds of the 2026 season. Farres heads into them with the red plate and a 50-point advantage over McLellan, while Herlings can enjoy the closing stages of the season with title number six already secured.
