Young Swiss talent Kevin Brumann is continuing to show improved speed this season, although the results sheet didn’t reflect that in Afyon. The MX-Handel Husqvarna Racing rider was riding strong in MXGP Race 1, battling fellow countryman and factory Ducati rider Jeremy Seewer for 14th place before a mechanical issue forced him out. His lap times were competitive with the top ten group, but a stone tangled in his chain meant he had to pull off with five minutes remaining. To make matters worse, shoulder pain from the bike’s sudden stop prevented him from lining up for Race 2. Earlier in the season, Brumann also underwent surgery following a crash in Lugo.
The Turkish Grand Prix is not the first flash of Brumann’s speed this year. at the Dutch Grand Prix, Brumann scored his best ever race result in the MXGP class, starting inside the top ten and setting faster lap times then a long list of factory backed competitors before finishing in 9th place! At only 21-years old the Swiss has four seasons’ worth of premier class gate drops, something that should be respected.
We caught up with Kevin post-race in Afyon to discuss his weekend, and despite the poor luck in Turkey. He provided an honest and light hearted insight into his season, battling with factory riders, searching for a ride next season and more!
