Highly touted Dutch MX2 rider Cas Valk recently inked a deal to race a TM with the CRD motorsport squad, through 2026 and 2027. He had a strong debut season in thew MX2 World Championship, particularly in the beginning stages of the season but displayed flashes of his speed at various rounds throughout the campaign.
Now, a new challenge awaits — the Dutchman makes the switch from the Van Venrooy KTM team to the Italian TM 250FI, previously piloted by Czech rider Julius Mikula. Although Mikula produced some strong rides at various rounds on the TM, the brand’s last real success in the World Championship came with Samuele Bernardini. This means Valk now has the opportunity to propel TM back into the conversation as a competitive force in the 250cc class.
“Yes exactly, a big opportunity ahead!” he told Cult Moto. “They (TM) contacted me and from then we started to talk and it was looking good from the beginning already, I loved what I heard and they are motivated and working hard so that’s amazing for me, and also very exciting!”
If you’ve read previous articles from me, you’ll know the emphasis I place on the value of a multi-year contract. Valk finds himself in a fortunate position, having signed a two-year deal with TM, easing some of the pressure that can build when riders are forced to perform for a contract renewal each season.
“A two year deal is always nice, for sure! It is giving you less pressure and more time, it’s good for both parties to have a 2 year deal! I am thankful for the opportunity and I think this will allow me to unlock my true potential and the true potential of the bike.“
“What stood out for me was definitely the bike in my eyes it looks amazing but also performs good, they offered me a good deal so I was happy about that!”
Now, expctations for Cas – it is intriguing to see where the Dutchman will stack up with the new machine. Changing to an aluminium frame is something that will be somewhat new, although he has some previous training experience back in 2023 with an Ali frame riding the Fantic 250cc four-stroke.
“You know, with a good winter prep for sure we must be able to battle inside the top ten. And then, you know it would be amazing to get in to the top five sometimes! I believe in the team and bike, they believe in me and I want to deliver the results they deserve.”
