The 2026 SuperMotocross World Championship headed to Southern California for Playoff 2, with Dignity Health Sports Park providing a completely different challenge to the rain-soaked opening round in Columbus.

With double points on the line and just the SMX Final remaining, there was very little room for error. Julien Beaumer delivered a huge night in the 250SMX class to take the overall, while Jorge Prado’s consistency paid off in 450SMX as the Spaniard strengthened his grip on the championship lead.

Julien Beaumer put together the strongest scorecard of the night in Los Angeles, taking the opening moto victory before backing it up with third in Moto 2 to secure the overall for Red Bull KTM.

Ryder DiFrancesco continued his strong SMX campaign with second overall courtesy of 2-5 finishes, while championship leader Levi Kitchen recovered from seventh in the opening moto to win Moto 2 and claim the final spot on the overall podium.

Jo Shimoda narrowly missed out on the podium with 6-2 scores, while Kayden Minear completed the top five.

The results tightened things considerably at the top of the championship. Kitchen left Los Angeles with the red plate on 87 points, but DiFrancesco sat just three points behind on 84, with Beaumer moving into third on 71.

Jorge Prado didn’t win a moto in Los Angeles, but he didn’t need to.

The Red Bull KTM rider produced a pair of second-place finishes to secure the 450SMX overall victory, continuing his strong start to the postseason and extending his championship advantage heading into the final.

Ken Roczen struck first with victory in Moto 1 ahead of Prado and Haiden Deegan, but Moto 2 belonged to Hunter Lawrence. The Honda rider bounced back from fourth in the opener to take the win and secure second overall.

Roczen’s 1-4 scorecard put him third overall, while Deegan was consistent with a pair of third-place finishes for fourth. Cooper Webb rounded out the top five with 5-5 scores.

The result leaves Prado in control of the 450SMX standings heading into the final round with 92 points. Deegan and Lawrence are tied on 76, Roczen sits on 74, and Webb remains firmly in the conversation on 72.

With triple points available at the SMX Final, though, there’s still plenty to play for.

After two very different playoff rounds, everything now comes down to the season finale. Kitchen holds just a three-point advantage in 250SMX, while Prado takes a 16-point lead into the 450SMX showdown.
