The 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship came to a close under the Darwin sunshine, with the final round of the season taking place at Hidden Valley for the MXGP of Australia.

While Jeffrey Herlings had already wrapped up the MXGP crown, there was still one big piece of business to take care of in MX2. Guillem Farres arrived in Australia with one hand on the title, while teammate Camden McLellan was determined to take the fight as far as he possibly could.

In the end, it was a pretty special day for Triumph – Farres became MX2 World Champion, McLellan won the Grand Prix and the British manufacturer finished the championship first and second.

McLellan signed off his 2026 season in style. The South African took the opening moto victory ahead of teammate Farres before charging through to second in race two, giving him a 1-2 scorecard and his second consecutive Grand Prix victory.

Liam Everts wasn’t far behind, going 3-1 and taking the final MX2 moto victory of the season, while rookie Janis Reisulis put together a consistent 4-3 to take the final step of the podium.

But the biggest story belonged to Farres.

Second place in the opening moto was enough to mathematically secure the 2026 MX2 World Championship, delivering Triumph its first FIM Motocross World Championship title just three years after the manufacturer entered the class.

Farres eventually finished fourth overall with 2-5 scores, but by then the job was already done. He ended the season on 904 points, with teammate McLellan second on 868 and Sacha Coenen third on 814.

Jeffrey Herlings couldn’t have finished his championship-winning season much better.

After Tom Vialle finally ended Herlings’ incredible run of 40 consecutive session or race wins during Saturday’s qualifying race, the six-time World Champion responded exactly as you’d expect on Sunday – by winning both motos.

Herlings’ 1-1 performance marked his eighth consecutive Grand Prix victory, his 13th GP win of the season and the 125th Grand Prix victory of his career.

Romain Febvre finished second in both motos to take second overall in his final Grand Prix with Kawasaki, while Vialle’s 4-3 scorecard secured his fifth consecutive podium and fourth in the final World Championship standings.

It brought the curtain down on a huge 2026 MXGP season. Herlings finished the year as a six-time World Champion with 973 points, while Farres left Darwin with his first MX2 world crown and a piece of history for Triumph.

From Argentina all the way to Australia, 19 rounds eventually came down to two new champions – Jeffrey Herlings in MXGP and Guillem Farres in MX2. With the GP season complete, attention now turns to Ernée, France, and the Motocross of Nations.
